Unique Super Bowl Props Add Big Game Spice
Many bettors find the excitement of Super Bowl betting thrilling enough—especially this season, with the game featuring the No. 1 seed from each conference and the top-two vote getters in the MVP race.
For some, though, Super Sunday is the perfect time to add even more spice to the plate, and there’s no better way to do that than with Super Bowl props.
Sportsbook.com has broken down their props into a variety of sections. If simply betting on the Super Bowl (Colts -5; Colts -220, Saints +180 at BetJamaica.com) isn’t enough for you this season, check out these great props to make your weekend even bigger.
Super Bowl Game Props
These props are rather straight forward, but they can range from incredibly simple to extremely difficult to handicap. Figuring out who will win the coin flip, whether the result will be heads or tails, and which team will receive the ball first is pretty easy—you could probably just, well, flip a coin.
After that it gets a little more complicated. Which team will have a penalty called on it first? New Orleans (-140) is a first-timer in the Super Bowl, so will opening-night jitters cause some mistakes? You can also bet on which team will turn the ball over first, score first, whether or not the game goes to overtime, and so forth. Anything in-game can be bet on.
Super Bowl Player Props
Player props get surprisingly specific. There are obvious ones—will Peyton Manning throw for over 300 yards, or will Drew Brees make a turnover—but there’s much more to this than picking your favorite quarterback.
Lance Moore was eighth on the Saints in receiving this year, yet you can wager on how many receptions and yards he’ll have, whether he’ll score, and even how long his deepest catch will be. Defenders and even punters (“Will Colts punter Pat McAfee have a touchback”, NO -250) have props available.
Player/Comparative Team Props
These props pit New Orleans and Indianapolis against each other, like who will have more rushing yards—Pierre Thomas or Joseph Addai (-14.5)? Hardcore bettors can go deeper into the game; like betting on the Saints to score more in the first half than Indianapolis does all game (Colts -17.5).
Super Bowl Cross Sport Props
Mixing sports are some of the most fun, wacky props you’ll find. With cross props, you might get a basketball player or NASCAR driver pitted against the Super Bowl participants. For example, will LeBron James and Kobe Bryant (-1.5) combine for more points in their Saturday matchup than the Colts and Saints?
Will the winning car number at the NASCAR Bud Shootout be higher or lower than the number of points scored in the first half of the Super Bowl? Will Phil Mickelson have more birdies in the final round of the Northern Trust Open than Peyton Manning touchdown passes?
College and pro basketball, hockey, golf, even soccer—you can find just about any sport mixed in with Super Bowl props this weekend.
