Miami (Florida) vs Pittsburgh Odds Preview - courtesy of TheGreek.com:

2010 isn’t exactly starting in style for the Pittsburgh Panthers. First, there was the Week 1 loss to Utah in overtime that knocked them out of the national Top 25. Now, in Week 3, they’re 3.5-point underdogs at home to the Miami Hurricanes. Why have oddsmakers lost their faith in Pittsburgh?

It isn’t the Panthers’ quarterbacking. Tino Sunseri has been better than advertised, throwing for three scores and 400-plus yards over his first two games. It could be, surprisingly, their struggles in the running game. Pitt was expected to field one of the nation’s top rushing attacks with Dion Lewis carrying the load. Lewis was dynamite as a freshman, rushing for 1,799 yards, but he’s averaging just 2.9 yards per carry so far this season.

Another reason why Pittsburgh hasn’t been a popular betting choice of late: its defense looks a little suspect. Sure, it cruised past New Hampshire, but that game was a shoo-in. Utah moved the ball well against the Panthers, compiling 400-plus yards of total offense.

Now, the Panthers are underdogs against the 19th-ranked Miami Hurricanes, a team that should play with fire this Thursday night. The ’Canes were a hot BCS sleeper entering the season but went off the tracks at Ohio State two weeks ago.

It wasn’t just the loss that got bettors and fans worried about Miami, as any team has trouble on the road against No. 2 Ohio State; it was the way the Hurricanes lost. Quarterback Jacory Harris is supposed to be the team leader and a Heisman Trophy candidate but he fell apart against the Buckeyes, tossing four interceptions.

Harris is determined to redeem himself and faces a beatable defense; for that reason, the over/under for this Thursday has climbed above 50 points. Bettors still have to be careful picking the OVER, however. Miami seems poised to score but its aggressive “D” could shut down Pittsburgh if the Panthers can’t get Lewis going.

The Thursday nighter should be a spirited affair as both teams have something to prove. However, it seems that Pittsburgh has more of an uphill climb, as Harris is a man on a mission.
