With the NFL returning in full force on Thursday, many football betting fans are looking for an extra dose of action. They can get it from the numerous NFL contests being hosted by sportsbooks this year. Here’s a look at some of the more excitement NFL contests on tap for 2010.

Sportsbook.com’s Survivor Pool offers tremendous bang for your buck, as you can turn $25 into $50,000. The rules follow a typical survivor pool format, but Sportsbook.com also gives you a discount if you buy in bulk—each time you make an entry, it gets cheaper. The first costs $25; your second through fifth entries cost $20; and your sixth to 10th entries cost just $15 dollars.

Sportsbook.com has also brought back its Perfect Parlay contest. The free contest asks participants to pick every NFL game on a weekly basis; if you correctly predict every spread winner in a given week, Sportsbook.com will cut you a check for $100,000.

The Greek is offering a pile of prizes for its Pick 15 Football Challenge—over $1.1 million, to be exact. Players simply need to pick 15 games against the spread in a given week and, if you choose enough correct games, you can win up to $588,625 in weekly prizes. There are also bonuses prizes of $150,000, plus smaller weekly prizes ranging from $25 to $15,000. The contest is completely free and, better yet, you can play NFL or college football.

BetUS.com has a pair of football contests on the go. First, there’s the Gridiron Guru. Players make a regular $10 bet against the spread and, if they can string a few victories together, BetUS starts handing out the prizes—including a top prize of $25,000. In the Ironman contest, players again make a regular wager ($5 minimum) and the participant with the most wins at the end of the month earns the “Ultimate Sports Fan” prize pack, which includes a $100 free play, an authentic NFL team jersey and tons of other gear.

Sports Interaction features a weekly Pick ‘Em competition offering up weekly and monthly prizes, plus a grand prize at the end of the NFL season. Contestants pick every NFL game on a weekly basis, and whoever cranks out the best record at various points of the year cleans up in prizes. Those prizes include three per week ($100, $50, $10); a monthly prize ($250); and a prize for the best overall picker at the end of the season ($500).

Bodog

The Bodog Bankroll Football Contest is a unique spin on the traditional pick ‘em. Each player starts with a “bankroll” of 1000 points. On a weekly basis, contestants pick games against the spread and risk their points (players can choose how much to risk per game, but must bet a minimum three games per week to stay eligible for the grand prize). Over $8000 is given away each week to winners, with as many as 411 players claiming money.
