Ohio State Climbs BCS Title Odds Ladder Quickly

Alabama still sits atop the BCS odds lists at most Topsportsbooks.com shops, but Ohio State has been climbing fast.

The 2010 college football schedule kicks off this week, prompting NCAA football bettors to start sizing up Week 1's pointspreads and totals. On the eve of the season, pigskin fans should also take a close look at the BCS Championship futures odds.

While that wager takes four months to come in, a correct call could land you a ton of cash just in time to pay off those Christmas bills. Here's a look at the Bodog favorites to win the national title and a program that could pay off in a big way on January 10.

Alabama Crimson Tide (+400 to win BCS title)

The defending national champs bring back plenty of firepower from a team that scored more than 32 points per game last season. Heisman tailback Mark Ingram leads the charge for the Crimson Tide, along with budding quarterback Greg McElroy and playmaking wideout Julio Jones.

Alabama is rolling the dice on defense this season, with many new faces in the stop unit. However, head coach Nick Saban brings in a bumper crop of young talent to help ease the sting of losing all but one starter on defense. If 'Bama bettors are confident that the inexperienced players can mature quickly in the SEC jungle, the Tide are a solid bet to keep on rolling.

Ohio State Buckeyes (+500)

After losing in the BCS title game in 2006 and 2007, the Buckeyes looked primed to win their first national championship since 2002. Jim Tressel returns eight starters on offense including playmaking quarterback Terrelle Pryor. The third-year starter will be aiming for a huge year, not just in pursuit of the national title but also to impress pro scouts. Pryor has his top two receivers back on the wing and a deep ground attack backing him up.

Ohio State's defense brings back six starters from 2009's unit that allowed just 12.5 points per game and ranked fifth in the country. The Buckeyes' stop unit recruits the finest defenders in the land and won't suffer much while plugging in those new players. Ohio State bettors will find out if the Buckeyes are for real following Week 2's tilt with the Miami Hurricanes.

Wisconsin Badgers (+4000)

While Ohio State steals the headlines in the Big Ten, the Badgers sit and wait. Wisconsin is coming off a solid 10-3 season and knocked off Miami in the Champs Sports Bowl. A ton of the talent featured in that game returns for 2010, including 10 starters on offense and five starters on the defensive side of the ball.

The Badgers' strength will be their offense. Senior quarterback Scott Tolzien is back under center along with stud tailback John Clay, who led the Big Ten in rushing last season. That scoring punch will have to make up for a developing defense which was slowed by injuries this offseason. Wisconsin has a chance to stun OSU and make a bid for the BCS when it hosts the Buckeyes on October 16.
