NBA Futures Update: LeBron James is Going to Miami

Did you hear that LeBron James is going to Miami to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on the Heat? How could you not with every sports site posting up-to-the-second updates on LeBron's decision and the King himself holding court over a one hour “The Decision” special live on ESPN.

Now that the trio of LeBron, Wade, and Bosh are together in Miami what does it mean for bettors? Not surprisingly the Heat have quickly shot up the NBA championship futures at Bodog. The new-look Heat are huge championship favorites at Bodog at 7/4. That's better than the Lakers, Celtics, Magic, and much better than LeBron's former team the Cavaliers. It looks like lean times for the Cavs, who have plummeted down the odds list, crash landing at 60/1.

With the Heat sporting such heavy firepower it will be championship or bust for every season from now on. However, they still need to fill out the rest of the roster around their big three. When James confirmed he was heading to Miami on Thursday night the only players signed in Miami were Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers. Beasley was quickly shipped out of town to provide more cap space and it was rumored that Mike Miller was on the verge of joining the Heat as well. A starting lineup of Bosh, LeBron, Wade, Miller, and Chalmers looks pretty good as long as everyone can keep their egos in check and distribute the ball.

Some people may already be crowning the Heat the 2011 NBA champs, but they've still got to get through the rest of the NBA elite, something neither LeBron or Bosh has done before. The Lakers are still a force at 11/4 with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Ron Artest, and Lamar Odom.

In the East the Heat will still have to get past Boston and Orlando. The Celtics at 12/1 have done a little retooling as well by bringing in Jermaine O'Neal and re-signing Paul Pierce. The Magic have yet to make any noise in the free agent market, but they may not need to with Dwight Howard, Vince Carter, and Jameer Nelson still around.
