Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

The Yankees and their hard-hitting offense and the favorite in this series at -145 at 5Dimes. The Tigers, led by soon-to-be Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander are a +125 underdog. The opener pits Verlander against Yankees ace CC Sabathia and neither sports great numbers versus their Game 1 opponents Verlander was 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts against New York this season while Sabathia was 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA in two outings against the Tigers. Even with Verlander on the mound in the opener the Tigers are a +115 road underdog in the series opener.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers

The Rays put together a red-hot September to sneak into the playoffs on the final day of the regular season. Now they'll try to keep the wins coming against the Rangers in the opening round. The Rays are a +140 underdog in the series at 5Dimes, while Texas is a -160 favorite. In nine regular season matchups between the Rays and Rangers Texas came out on top with five wins. Texas has home field advantage in the series and they were 2-1 versus the Rays in Arlington this season. More bad news for the Rays is the fact that Rangers ace C.J. Wilson was 2-0 with a tidy 2.08 ERA in three starts against Tampa Bay this season.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Philadelphia Phillies

The Cardinals also snuck into the postseason on the final day of the regular season and it earned them a date with the MLB-best Phillies in the opening round. St. Louis shouldn't be too scared though, as they were an impressive 6-3 against Philadelphia during the regular season. That included wins against both Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee. In fact just two weeks ago Game 1 starter Kyle Lohse outdueled Halladay in a 4-3 Cardinals win. Despite the Cardinals regular season success against the Phillies they're still a major underdog in the series. The Phillies are mammoth favorites at 5Dimes at -290, while the Cards are a +245 underdog.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Milwaukee Brewers

The Diamondbacks are major underdogs in their opening round series with the Brewers. At 5Dimes the Brewers are a -155 series favorite and the D-Backs a +135 underdog. Arizona did have some success against the Brewers during the regular season with a 4-3 record in seven games. That included a 2-1 record in Milwaukee, where the Brewers posted the best home record in the Majors this season at 57-24. To have a chance at upsetting the Brewers the Diamondbacks will need to find a away to stop Ryan Braun. During the regular season Braun hit .417 with two home runs and four RBI in 12 games versus Arizona.
