Injuries Moving College Football Point Spreads

Injuries really took their toll on a number of point spreads this week in college football.

Starting in the Top 25, two games involving ranked schools have already seen 2.5-point shifts. First on the list is Colorado at No. 16 Nebraska. The Cornhuskers began the week as a 20-point favorite at Bodog, but have since slipped to 17.5-point favorites thanks to three big injuries to their offense. Quarterback Taylor Martinez was downgraded to 'expected to miss' for this week's game due to an ankle injury he aggravated last week. Running back Roy Helu missed the end of last week's game after getting his calf stepped on, but he is expected to play this week.

Lastly, Nebraska's leading receiver Niles Paul is out this week after suffering a foot injury in practice on Tuesday. This doesn't look good for a Nebraska offense that scored only six points last week in a loss to Texas A&M.

The other Top 25 game that saw a 2.5-point shift is Arizona at No. 1 Oregon. The Ducks started out at -17.5 at Bodog, but they're currently listed at -20. Part of that is likely due to bettors dumping a ton of money on the No. 1 team in the country against an Arizona squad that has lost two straight.

There was also a promising report on running back LaMichael James; he's been dealing with a lower leg bruise, but has practiced all week and should play on Friday.

Outside of the Top 25 the most notable line move was in the Tulane at Marshall game. See the matchup report, live odds and betting trends on this game and every other at 5Dimes.com, while claiming a 50% bonus!

The Thundering Herd began the week as a 7.5-point home favorite at Bodog, but has grown into a 9.5-point favorite. When you consider the Green Wave's quarterback situation this week you could see this line move coming. Tulane's starting quarterback Ryan Griffin is doubtful with an injured wrist, while backup QB Kevin Moore is also doubtful with a bad ankle.

That means that third-stringer D.J. Ponder will likely get the start. Ponder replaced an injured Moore last week in Tulane's 61-14 loss to UCF, so take that for what it's worth.

One other game bettors should keep an eye on this weekend is Notre Dame at USC. This game was kept off the board at Bodog due to the status of Trojans QB Matt Barkley. He suffered a high ankle sprain in USC's 36-7 loss to Oregon State last week and isn't expected to start this weekend.

Notre Dame has been playing without their starting QB for weeks since Dayne Crist went down with a season-ending leg injury, so even if USC is without Barkley they'll still be a road underdog this weekend when they try to end an eight-game losing streak versus the Trojans.
