Celtics NBA Title Odds Fade vs Heat
The Boston Celtics’ NBA title dreams are effectively on the line when they tip off with the Miami Heat in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series on Saturday night at TD Garden.
The Heat took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series with a 102-91 win over the Celtics on Tuesday night at AmericanAirlines Arena, as LeBron James went for 35 points and seven rebounds.
It was a banner night for Miami’s Big Three. In addition to James’ performance, Dwyane Wade had 28 points and eight boards while Chris Bosh added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Heat (-5).
It was the third straight SU and ATS victory for Miami against Boston dating back to the teams’ final regular season meeting, but the Celts have the upper hand with the series shifting to the Garden.
Oddsmakers at Sports Interaction have Boston as 3-point favorites for Game 3, while the total is on the board at 182.5.
The last time the clubs met in Beantown on February 13, the Celtics emerged with an 85-82 win as 2.5-point underdogs. Six Boston players scored in double figures including Kevin Garnett, who finished with 17 points and nine boards.
Three days of rest should do the veteran Celtics a world of good. Paul Pierce (strained left heel), Ray Allen (bruised chest), and Rajon Rondo (tight back) all left the floor at some point in Game 2, but all are expected to start on Saturday. Shaquille O’Neal (calf) remains out of the lineup and is listed as questionable for Game 3.
The Heat expect to get Udonis Haslem (foot) back in the mix before the end of the series, but it’s not likely to happen on Saturday. Haslem is questionable for Miami.
Over in the Western Conference, the surprising Memphis Grizzlies are 3.5-point chalk against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 3 of their second-round set on Saturday afternoon at the FedExForum. The total is set at 200.5.
Kevin Durant dropped 26 points as the Thunder bounced back from their loss in the series opener with a 111-102 win over the Grizzlies in Game 2 on Tuesday night. Russell Westbrook posted 24 points and six assists for Oklahoma City (-6.5), which shot 52.8% from the field in the win.
Both teams shot over 50% from the floor in the Grizzlies’ 107-101 win over the Thunder on March 7 in Memphis. The Grizz racked up 68 points in the paint in a payday as 3-point faves, as Mike Conley led the way with 20 points and nine assists.
On the NBA futures board, the Heat are priced as +170 chalk to win the NBA title, while the Celtics are listed at +1200. The Thunder are set at +650 and the upstart Grizzlies are available at +2500.
