Boise State Given Highest Projected NCAAF Win Total

If the oddsmakers know what they’re talking about, Boise State is going to rack up the wins in 2010. Can they run the table, and will it be enough to get them into the BCS Championship game (Boise State has 8/1 BCS title odds)?

The Broncos have the highest projected win total of any team in the nation: 11 games. The over is getting +110 odds while the under clocks in at -140 at top-rated sportsbook bodog. What’s the better deal? For starters, let’s take a look at the 2010 squad on both sides of the ball.

The offensive attack is dynamite, a combination of spread attacking and well-time trick plays. Kellen Moore has been a beast at quarterback, winning all but one game over the past two years; he tossed 39 scores and just three interceptions last season.

It gets better; Moore can looking forward to the top eight receivers returning for action this year, while the two-headed monster of Jeremy Avery and Doug Martin return at running back (combined 1920 yards last season). Eight linemen also return in 2010, meaning the entire offense is loaded.

Defensively, there’s talent at all three levels; consistency is the bigger issue. The Broncos had some very impressive shutdown games against vaunted opponents, but they were prone to lapses, too. If they bring their A-game on a weekly basis, watch out.

Now, onto the real important stuff—the schedule. With 12 games on the regular season schedule, does Boise State have what it takes to surpass 11 wins? The most daunting game of the year—save for a BCS Bowl game, of course—comes in Week 1 against Virginia Tech.

If the Broncos win that came, they have a strong chance at winning it all this season. If they lose, cancel the parade.

The only other tough games are Wyoming and Oregon State. Really, though, there aren’t many road bumps after the Virginia Tech game, especially in the WAC—Boise State is 68-4 all time in the conference. With the Broncos setting sail for the Mountain West next year, there’s extra motivation to take care of business and cement their legacy before leaving town.

This looks like the year for Boise State. Don’t be surprised to see them topple the Hokies in Week 1, setting the tone for a magical season—one that surpasses 11 wins.
