BetUS Favors Jets In AFC East NFL Preview
When the 2010 NFL season is all said and done next February 6, the AFC East could go down as the most competitive division in football.
There is no shortage of raging rivalries between the four teams, most notably the blossoming animosity between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets. Those two teams lead the NFL futures odds to win the AFC East, with New England listed at +130 at BetUS.com and New York just behind at +140.
The Patriots appear to be making a final push at another Super Bowl before their stars dim. Tom Brady and Randy Moss will still be a potent combo but the big issue with New England is its defense. Last season, the Pats' stop unit let the team down in big games - and things aren't looking much better this preseason. New England's first-team defense gave up 36 points to the St. Louis Rams, allowing rookie quarterback Sam Bradford to air it out for 189 yards (15-for-22) and two touchdowns last Thursday.

The Jets have issues of their own on the other side of the ball. After a solid rookie campaign, quarterback Mark Sanchez could be stuck in a sophomore slump. He's been flat this preseason, completing just over 64 percent of his passes, connecting for two touchdowns, and getting picked off twice. Sanchez went 13-for-21 for 139 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in New York's 16-11 loss to the Washington Redskins last Friday.
Sitting quietly in the middle of the AFC East are the Miami Dolphins (+325 to win the division), a team that took the AFC East crown just two seasons ago. Miami's offense has sputtered a bit in the preseason, even with new stud receiver Brandon Marshall. He's caught seven balls for a total of 116 yards this preseason, but has yet to find the end zone. The Dolphins are averaging just over two touchdowns during the tuneup schedule; however, the defense has flexed its muscles, allowing only 16 points on 282 yards per game this summer.
Rounding out the AFC East, and most likely settling at the bottom of the standings, are the Buffalo Bills (+2,500 to win division). There were rumblings that the Bills were looking to add quarterback Matt Leinart, who the Arizona Cardinals are shopping heavily this preseason. However, the team has dismissed those rumors and will be sticking with Ryan Fitzpatrick as the regular season draws closer. Buffalo has done well in its last two preseason tilts, getting great production from rookie running back C.J. Spiller who has rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns this preseason.
